VL Productions Timepieces are the latest design statement resulting from the partnership of industrialist Gilbert Villarreal and automotive legend Bob Lutz. Designed for assembly in Detroit, the series was developed with assistance from master watchmaker and industry veteran Donald Loke. After a successful debut at the BaselWorld Watch and Jewelery Show in 2013 , the series was incorporated in the broader Villarreal-Lutz (VL) luxury portfolio.
About Gilbert Villarreal
A serial entrepreneur in the automotive, marine, and manufacturing industries, VL Productions co-founder Gilbert Villarreal began his career at Boeing, where he first observed lean production techniques. In addition to an auto components business specialized in light-weight composites and injection molding, Villarreal is founder and owner of Concorde Marine, builder of custom sport yachts from 40 to 104 feet. With a passion for collector’s items and limited edition luxury goods, Villarreal maintains a unique approach to manufacturing that the Wall Street Journal described in 2013 as combining “resourcefulness, commonsense, blowtorch engineering, and love for the [craft].”
About Robert Lutz
An auto industry icon and former Chrysler President and COO, VL Productions co-founder Bob Lutz is responsible for groundbreaking car development initiatives including the Dodge Viper, the Chevy Volt, the C6 and ZR1 Corvette. Having also held senior executive and operations positions with Ford, BMW, and General Motors, Lutz is a best-selling author of management books including “Car Guys vs. Bean Counters” and “Guts: 8 Laws of Business from One of the Most Innovative Business Leaders of our Time." Lutz holds a BA in Production Management and an MBA from UC Berkely, collects cars, and maintains his pilot’s license, flying his Aero L39 Alatross Jet.
